Verizon retired its own email service, and @verizon.net mailboxes moved to AOL (or, for some people, Yahoo). So the app password you need is an AOL one — created on AOL's account security page, not anywhere on verizon.com.

Step by step
How to create your AOL app password.
- Sign in on the AOL Account Security page with your @verizon.net address.
- Choose Generate app password (it may read Generate and manage app passwords).
- Select Get Started, type a name for the app, then Generate password.
- Copy the password shown and paste it into your mail app in place of your account password.
- Select Done.
Worth knowing
- If you migrated to Yahoo rather than AOL, create the app password on Yahoo's Account Security page instead and use Yahoo's servers.
- AOL asks you to do this from a browser you've been signed in on for a few days — a private/incognito window often fails.
- Mailboxes that were never migrated before Verizon's December 2017 deadline were deleted, and cannot be recovered.
