Email app passwords · TELUS

Create a TELUS
Google app password.

TELUS email is hosted on Google's platform. Google no longer accepts ordinary passwords from mail apps, so a manual IMAP setup needs a Google app password — which in turn requires 2-Step Verification on the account.

Applies to telus.net, telusplanet.net addresses.

Before you start

2-Step Verification must be switched on for the Google account behind your TELUS address.

Step by step

How to create your Google app password.

  1. Sign in to the Google account for your @telus.net address.
  2. Open Google Account → Security and turn on 2-Step Verification if it isn't already.
  3. Still under Security, open App passwords.
  4. Name the app and generate the password, then copy the 16-character code.
  5. Use that code as the password in your mail app, with Google's servers.

Worth knowing

  • The legacy imap.telus.net and smtp.telus.net servers are retired — use Google's.
  • Adding your TELUS address in BlueMail as a Google account signs you in through Google and needs no app password at all.

Or skip the Google app password entirely

BlueMail signs in to TELUS through the provider's own login screen, the same way your browser does — so there's no code to generate, copy or replace later, and nothing breaks the next time you change your password. Free on iOS, Android, macOS, Windows and Linux.
