Your recovery email is the address BlueMail uses to reach you if you are locked out of your account. Keeping it current matters most at exactly the moment you cannot check your main mailbox, so it is worth updating as soon as the old address stops being one you can read.
Updating it
- Go to Settings | Accounts and tap the account.
- Tap Update Recovery Email.
- Enter the new address under Enter recovery email address, then tap Send Verification Code.
- BlueMail sends a 4-digit code to that address and tells you where it went: "We sent a verification code to …". Open that mailbox, then type the code under Verification Code.
- Tap Confirm. You will see "Recovery email updated successfully".
The change only takes effect at step 5. Until you confirm the code, your old recovery address is still the one on file, which is deliberate, since it stops a mistyped address from quietly locking you out.
If something goes wrong
- No code arrived. Check the spam folder of the new address first, then use Resend Code.
- "Recovery email cannot be the same as your account email." A recovery address has to be a different mailbox, one you can still open if this account becomes unreachable.
- "Invalid verification code." Codes are exactly four digits; re-read it in the email and try again rather than guessing.
- "Too many attempts." Wait a little before requesting another code.
Which accounts have it
Update Recovery Email is there for accounts that use BlueMail's own mail service, where BlueMail looks after your sign-in details for you.
Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, iCloud and other third-party accounts keep their recovery address with the provider, so you set it once in their account settings and BlueMail picks up the change automatically, which is why Reset Password appears only on BlueMail-hosted accounts. For a third-party mailbox, change the password with your provider and then tell BlueMail about it; see Update your account password.
