End-to-End Encryption (E2EE) uses PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) to ensure only the sender and recipient can read an email.
What are PGP Keys?
PGP uses a "key pair" system:
- Public Key: You share this with the world so people can send you encrypted mail.
- Private Key: You keep this secret on your device to decrypt mail sent to you.
How to Set Up Encryption
Go to Settings > Global Settings > Privacy > End-to-End Encryption.
Key Generation
If you don't have PGP keys:
- Tap Generate Key.
- Enter your email address and name.
- Set a strong Passphrase (this protects your private key).
- Save your public key to share with others.
Importing Existing Keys
If you already use PGP elsewhere:
- Tap Import Key.
- Paste your PGP Private or Public key text, or select a file from your device.
- Enter the passphrase if importing a private key.
Managing Keys per Account
You can enable or disable PGP for specific email accounts in the Account Selection screen within the Encryption menu. This allows you to have some accounts dedicated to secure communication while others remain standard.
[!IMPORTANT] > Backup Your Keys: If you lose your Private Key and forget your passphrase, you will NEVER be able to read emails encrypted with that key. Export and save a backup in a recursive storage location.
