Advanced Features is the longest screen in BlueMail's settings, and most of what it holds is covered in detail elsewhere in this help center. This page is the map: what each entry does, and where to read more.
To open it, go to Settings | Global Settings | Advanced Features. (See How to Open Settings in BlueMail if you are not sure how to reach Settings.)
Three screens share this name. There is also an Advanced Features screen under Settings | Privacy & Security, which holds the protection settings, and one reached from Settings | Accounts | [your account] | Advanced, which holds that account's CalDAV settings. This page is about the one under Global Settings, which applies to the whole app rather than to a single account.
What opens by default
- Default Account when Launching App: which account BlueMail shows when you open it.
- Default filter in Message List: whether the list opens on All, Unread or Starred.
- Default From in Unified Inbox: which address a new email is sent from when you compose in the Unified Inbox.
- Show after Deleting a Message: where BlueMail takes you after you delete the message you are reading.
- Default Reply Action: whether the reply button does Reply or Reply All.
Composing and sending
- Confirm Before Sending: asks for confirmation before an email goes out. A useful companion to Undo Send Buffer below if you have ever sent something a moment too early.
- Confirm Before Deleting: the same idea for deletions.
- Undo Send Buffer: how long BlueMail holds a sent message so you can still recall it.
- Ask to adjust images before sending: offers to shrink large images as you attach them.
- Plain Text Only: sends plain text instead of formatted mail.
- Enable Audio Recorder: record a voice clip straight into an email.
- Send Email Sound: the sound played when a message is sent. Not shown on Android, where this is set per account under Compose Sound; see Disable the outgoing sound.
Reading and the message list
- Reply Bar and Follow-up Bar, the quick-action bars shown while reading a message.
- Swipe to Navigate Emails and Display Prev/Next Mail View Action Buttons, two ways to move between emails without going back to the list.
- Hide Read Emails from Unread Filter: keeps already-read mail out of the Unread filter.
- Hide One Tap Unsubscribe: hides the unsubscribe button that appears on marketing mail.
- Enable Interactions and Enable Reactions, emoji-style responses to a message.
- Invert images on Dark Mode: inverts image colors so bright images are less harsh in dark mode.
- Vibrate when entering multi edit: on Android, a short vibration when a long press starts a multi-select.
Sharing, widgets and notifications
- Enable Share Email: allows sharing an email out to other apps. If your device is managed by an employer this row can be greyed out, with a note that an administrator disabled it.
- Quick share after screenshot: on phones and tablets, taking a screenshot while reading a message offers to share a link to the conversation.
- Widget Items Count: how many messages the home-screen widget lists: 5, 10, 15, 20 or 25.
- Clear notifications on launch: what happens to BlueMail's notifications when you open the app: All notifications are cleared, Selected account only, or Don't clear.
- Open Web Pages: which browser links open in: Use Default Browser or Use Chrome.
Language, services and maintenance
- Change Language: the app's display language.
- Enable GemAI: the master switch for BlueMail's AI features.
- Screener: holds mail from senders you have not corresponded with before.
- Smart Filter: the server-side filtering that Screener and related features are built on. Turning it off warns you that "this will disable the Smart Filter and additional features", because those features stop working with it.
- Sync Services: the master switch for BlueMail's server-side services, and the reason so much of the app works without you configuring anything. Keep it on to get the full set; BlueMail will confirm with you before switching it off, since the features built on it go with it.
- Suggested contacts in chat and Suggested contacts style: whether BlueMail suggests people to write to, and whether those suggestions appear as Cards or a List. The style row only appears while suggestions are switched on.
- Clear Cache: clears locally stored mail and re-downloads it.
Your list may be shorter than this one, and that is by design. BlueMail shows the settings that fit your device, so some entries are specific to Android or to iPhone and iPad, and Suggested contacts style appears once suggestions are switched on. On a managed work device, your administrator chooses which of these your organization uses.
