Most accounts add themselves from just an email address and a password. If yours won't, work through this page in order — start with the normal sign-in, and only enter server details by hand if BlueMail can't find them for you.
Start with your email and password
You normally don't enter any server details at all — BlueMail detects them for you.
- Tap Continue, type your email address and tap Sign in.
- Enter your password, leave Allow BlueMail to auto-detect the server details of your account ticked, and tap Next.
If that works, you're done and nothing below applies.
Using Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, AOL, Office 365 or iCloud? Pick your provider from the list, or tap Continue with Google for Gmail. These connect by signing in, so don't set them up manually.
If BlueMail can't detect your provider
Use Manual Setup — the link under the Sign in button, and again at the bottom of the Choose provider screen. Pick IMAP or POP3, and the form that follows holds the server, Security and Port fields. Your provider's website lists the values to enter. See Configuring your account manually.
Already have an account in BlueMail? Its server details are under Settings | Accounts | [tap the account] | Incoming/Outgoing Settings — see Edit Account.
Things to check
If sign-in still fails, these are the usual causes — most of them are settings at your provider rather than in BlueMail.
1. Are your server details correct?
Check the IMAP/POP3 and SMTP server names, ports and security settings against your provider's website, then enter them in the Manual Setup form above.
2. Double-check your email and password
Make sure you're entering your full email address as the username. If you recently changed your password, sign in to your webmail first to confirm it works.
3. Does your provider need an app password?
Many providers block third-party apps unless you use an app-specific password instead of your normal one — especially with two-factor authentication switched on. Look in your provider's security settings.
4. Are you using the right security settings?
Most providers need SSL/TLS. If you're unsure, try switching between SSL, TLS and STARTTLS in the Security dropdown on the Manual Setup form — the same screen as the server and port fields.
5. Have you enabled IMAP or POP3 with your provider?
Some services require you to turn on IMAP or POP3 access before any mail app can connect. This switch is on your provider's own website, not in BlueMail — sign in to your webmail and look under its settings.
6. Is a firewall, antivirus or VPN in the way?
Security software and VPNs can block the connection. Turn them off briefly and try the setup again.
7. Is your email account active?
If the account has been unused for a while, your provider may have locked it. Sign in via webmail to check.
8. Is BlueMail up to date?
Install the latest version to rule out a compatibility problem.
Getting a specific error?
If BlueMail showed you a message, go straight to the page for it — each one has the provider-side fix.
While adding the account
- Incorrect username or password — Bad Username or Password. Often not a typo: many providers need an app-specific password rather than your normal one, especially with two-factor authentication on.
- "You are not authorized to perform this action" — Not Authorized. The provider is refusing the sign-in — commonly a block on new devices or locations, or 2FA requiring an app password.
- "IMAP is disabled on this server" — IMAP Disabled. IMAP access is switched off for the account; turn it on in webmail, then restart BlueMail and try again.
- Unsupported or incompatible security protocol — Unsupported Protocol. BlueMail and the server can't agree on encryption. Includes the correct port numbers for IMAP, POP3 and SMTP.
- Setup could not finish (
3017) — Setup Could Not Finish. A general "couldn't add the account" result rather than one specific fault: most of these turn out to be IMAP switched off at the provider, or an app-specific password being required.
