How to set BlueMail as Default Mail Client

If clicking an email link on a web page opens the wrong app, your system still has another mail client set as the default. Changing it is a system setting rather than a BlueMail one, so the steps depend on your platform.

Install BlueMail and open it at least once before you start, most systems only offer an app as a default after it has run.

Windows 11

1. Open Settings (press Win + I, or right-click the Start button and choose Settings).
2. Go to Apps › Default apps.
3. Type BlueMail in the search box at the top and select it from the results.
4. Find the MAILTO tile and click it. This is the link type Windows uses for email links on web pages.
5. Choose BlueMail in the window that appears, then click Set default.

You can also work the other way round: on the Default apps page choose Choose defaults by link type, search for MAILTO, and set it to BlueMail.

Windows 10

1. Open Settings (press Win + I).
2. Go to Apps › Default apps.
3. Under Email, click the current app and choose BlueMail.

Windows 8.1

Windows 8.1 predates the Settings app's default-apps page, so this lives in Control Panel:

1. Open Control Panel › Programs › Default Programs.
2. Click Set your default programs.
3. Select BlueMail in the list, then click Set this program as default.

If email links still open the wrong app, go back to Default Programs, choose Associate a file type or protocol with a program, find MAILTO, and set it to BlueMail.

Mac

1. Open the Mail app.
2. Choose Mail › Settings in the menu bar, then click General.
3. Pick BlueMail from the Default email reader menu. If it isn't listed, choose Select and locate it in your Applications folder.

Note: this setting lives inside Apple's Mail app even if you never use it, and Mail may ask you to add an account before it lets you change anything.

Linux (GNOME, Ubuntu, Fedora and similar)

1. Open Settings.
2. Select Apps › Default Apps in the sidebar.
3. Click the drop-down next to Mail and choose BlueMail.

On older GNOME releases this panel was nested under Details. On KDE Plasma, the equivalent is System Settings › Apps › Default Applications › Email client.

Android

Android has no single "default email app" switch on every device, so use whichever of these applies to yours:

• When you tap an email link, Android shows an Open with chooser. Select BlueMail and then Always to make the choice stick.
• Samsung: Settings › Apps › Choose default apps › Email app › BlueMail.
• Other devices: look under Settings › Apps › Default apps. If no Email entry appears there, your device doesn't offer one, use the Open with chooser above.

If you previously chose a different app with Always, clear it first under Settings › Apps › [that app] › Open by default › Clear defaults.

iOS and iPadOS 18 and later

1. Open Settings.
2. Tap Apps, then Default Apps.
3. Tap Email and select BlueMail.

iOS and iPadOS 14 to 17

1. Open Settings and scroll down to BlueMail.
2. Tap Default Mail App.
3. Select BlueMail.
