GemAI Summary turns any email into a quick 2 to 3 sentence digest so you can decide whether to read the full message. You can ask follow-up questions about the email without leaving the summary view.
How to Find
- Open BlueMail
- Open any email in your inbox
- Tap the summary icon in the top bar of the email view
The icon also appears in the hovering reply bar at the bottom of the email view, and inside the Contact Insights sheet.
How to Use
- Tap the summary icon, the summary sheet slides up
- Wait for the typewriter animation to finish
- Read the 2 to 3 sentence summary
- Optionally:
- Type a follow-up question in the input at the bottom and send
- Tap Share to forward the summary
- Tap Re-summarize if new messages have arrived in the thread
The summary is cached, opening it again on the same email shows the previous summary instantly.
Options
- Language picker in the sheet header, the summary can be returned in a language different from the original email
- Summary length is fixed (medium) inside the sheet, the AI aims for 2 to 3 sentences
Tips
- Use summaries to triage long marketing or notification emails without opening every one
- Ask follow-up questions like "What date is the meeting?" or "Who is invited?" to extract specific facts
- The cached summary updates only when you tap Re-summarize, so a fresh fetch is always one tap away
Apple Intelligence on iOS
On iPhone and iPad models that support Apple Intelligence (iOS 18.1 and later), summaries run on-device using Apple Foundation Models. Nothing is sent to a server.
- Very long emails are truncated to fit the on-device 3,800 token limit
- Older iOS devices and Android phones use a server based summary instead
Troubleshooting
The summary icon is missing from the top bar
- Check Settings > Advanced > Enable GemAI, it might be off
- Some account types may not have summarization enabled
The summary looks too short or misses important details
- The model targets 2 to 3 sentences, ask follow-up questions for specifics
- For very long threads on iPhone, the summary is based on a truncated portion, on Android the full thread is sent to the server
"No tries left" appears when I tap the summary button
- Free accounts share a daily limit across all GemAI features
- Wait until tomorrow or upgrade to remove the cap
