It depends on where the drafts live — and one common misconception is worth clearing up first: MagicSync transfers your accounts and settings to the new phone, never your messages. Drafts are messages, so MagicSync itself doesn't carry them.
Drafts that carry over
For account types that sync folders with the server — IMAP, Gmail, Exchange — a saved draft is stored in the account's Drafts folder on the server. On the new phone, once the account is added (by MagicSync or by hand), the Drafts folder syncs back down with the rest of your mail, drafts included.
The reliable way to check before switching phones: open your provider's webmail and look in Drafts there. A draft you can see in webmail lives on the server and will carry over.
Drafts that don't
A draft that exists only on the old device has no server copy to sync from:
- Drafts in a POP3 account — POP3 doesn't sync folders to the server, so its drafts are local to the device that wrote them.
- Drafts saved while offline that never got a chance to upload.
For these, finish or send them from the old phone while you still have it — even sending them to your own address works as a quick transfer.
Checking on the new phone
On the new phone, drafts appear in the account's Drafts folder — open the folder drawer to reach it (see navigating between folders).
