WEB.DE requires an App-Passwort (app password) for web.de addresses in BlueMail once two-factor authentication is on, or when connecting from outside Europe, the USA and Canada.
Steps to Create a WEB.DE App-Specific Password
- Sign in to web.de in a web browser. On a phone, use the desktop view.
- Select the icon with your initials, then Account verwalten (Manage account).
- Choose Login & Sicherheit (Login & security).
- Scroll down and choose App-Passwörter (für externe Apps) (App passwords for external apps).
- Choose Neues App-Passwort erstellen (Create new app password).
- Enter a name, such as BlueMail, and choose Weiter (Next).
- Copy the password now. WEB.DE shows it only once.
- In BlueMail, enter this password instead of your normal WEB.DE password: when you add the account, or for an account already in BlueMail, under Settings | Accounts | [your account] | Update Password.
POP3/IMAP access must also be on. It is off by default and switches itself off after long non-use: select the icon with your initials, then E-Mail-Einstellungen (Email settings) | POP3/IMAP, turn on POP3- und IMAP-Zugriff erlauben (Allow POP3 and IMAP access) and complete the security check.
