Adding an Exchange Account

BlueMail is fully compatible with both Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) and Exchange Web Services (EWS) protocols.

ActiveSync gives you the better experience of the two, particularly for Calendar and Contacts synchronization, so BlueMail uses it wherever your provider offers it.

Adding an Exchange Account

  1. Go to Settings | Accounts | Add Account | Manual Setup | Exchange.
  2. On the Exchange Setup screen, enter your email address in the format username@domain.com.
  3. Enter your password, the same one you use for Exchange on your desktop.
  4. Tap Next and allow a few moments for your account to be configured.

Taking the Exchange tile gives you nothing to choose beyond your address and password: BlueMail works the protocol out with your server, and the Protocol row shows the result afterwards.

If you would rather state it yourself, there is a route that lets you. Choose Other Email instead of Exchange at the Manual Setup step, and the Account Type screen offers IMAP, POP3, Exchange ActiveSync and Exchange EWS as an explicit choice. That is the way to insist on ActiveSync when a server supports both.

Checking Your Current Protocol

To see which protocol an existing account is using, go to Settings | Accounts | [select the account] | Protocol.

Switching from EWS to ActiveSync

If the Protocol row shows EWS and your provider also supports ActiveSync, adding the account again is what moves it across:

  1. Settings | Accounts | [select the account] | Remove Account.
  2. Add it back using the steps above. See Switching an Exchange Account to ActiveSync.

Your mail is held on the server, so nothing is lost in the process.
