GemAI Summary turns any email into a quick 2 to 3 sentence digest so you can decide whether to read the full message. You can ask follow-up questions about the email without leaving the summary view.
How to Find
- Open BlueMail
- Open any email in your inbox
- Tap the summary icon in the top bar of the email view
The icon also appears in the hovering reply bar at the bottom of the email view, and inside the Contact Insights sheet.
How to Use
- Tap the summary icon, the summary sheet slides up
- Wait for the typewriter animation to finish
- Read the 2 to 3 sentence summary
- Optionally:
- Tap one of the suggested Ask a follow-up questions, or type your own in the input at the bottom and send
- Use the chips at the bottom of the sheet — Shorter, Bullets, and Suggest Reply (see Options below)
- Copy the summary from the 3-dot menu in the sheet header
The summary is cached, opening it again on the same email shows the previous summary instantly.
Options
- Language picker in the sheet header — a searchable language list, so the summary can be returned in a language different from the original email
- Shorter — regenerates the summary in a more compact form
- Bullets — regenerates the summary as a bulleted list
- Suggest Reply — shown on messages you can reply to. Select it and the input at the bottom becomes "Enter a Suggest Reply prompt": describe what you want to say, and GemAI drafts the reply from there
- 3-dot menu in the sheet header — Copy the summary, or Report Inappropriate if the AI produced something it shouldn't have
Tips
- Use summaries to triage long marketing or notification emails without opening every one
- Ask follow-up questions like "What date is the meeting?" or "Who is invited?" to extract specific facts
- If the summary reads long, tap Shorter or Bullets to reshape it rather than re-reading the original
Apple Intelligence on iOS
On iPhone and iPad models that support Apple Intelligence, summaries run on-device using Apple Foundation Models, so the message is not sent to a server. This needs iOS 26 or newer, and BlueMail asks the system itself whether the model is available rather than going by the version alone — so an eligible device can still fall back if the model is not ready.
- Older iOS devices and Android phones use a server-based summary instead
Troubleshooting
The summary icon is missing from the top bar
- Check Settings | Global Settings | Advanced Features | Enable GemAI — it might be off
- Some account types may not have summarization enabled
The summary looks too short or misses important details
- The model targets 2 to 3 sentences, ask follow-up questions for specifics
- Ask a follow-up question for anything the summary leaves out
"You've Hit Your Daily Limit" appears when I tap the summary button
- Free accounts share a daily limit across all GemAI features
- Wait until tomorrow or upgrade to remove the cap
I want to summarize an email I sent
- The app skips summarizing your own sent messages, the summary always reflects messages from the other side of the thread
