BlueMail embeds a unique ability to detect not only connection to the network, but also actual network performance and specifically connectivity to your mail providers. So, you may have internet but still not be able to access your email or send emails.
Which problem are you having?
Start with the line that matches what you are seeing — the causes are different:
- No new mail has arrived for hours or days, and nothing looks broken — work through the common solutions below, then the error checks at the end of this page.
- New mail only appears when you open the app, or arrives hours late — check the account's synchronization mode under Settings | Notifications | [the account] | Push or Fetch: with No Push or Manual, mail is not fetched in the background at all. On Android, the device's battery management is the other usual cause of delayed mail — exclude BlueMail from battery optimization and check your push status.
- Messages arrive, but show only a sender and subject with no message body — check Auto Download Messages up to under Offline Storage. It controls the size limit below which message content is downloaded automatically, so if it is set to Disabled, or to a limit smaller than the messages you are receiving, their content is not fetched on its own. For a single message that opens blank, open it, tap the 3-dot menu in the top-right corner and tap Redownload Message — see re-downloading an email. Deleting and re-adding the account has not helped other users with this symptom, so there is no need to try it.
- Recent mail syncs, but older emails are missing from a folder — that is the sync window, not a failure. See Days to Sync.
- One specific email you know exists cannot be found — it may not be downloaded to the device yet. See searching on the server.
- Mail syncs, but changes you make do not reach your provider (or arrive in the wrong folder) — see folder mapping below.
Common solutions
On a phone or tablet:
- Switch your network between WiFi and cellular/data or vice versa.
- Restart your phone.
- Update your password in BlueMail.
On the desktop app, the network and restart steps above do not apply. Instead:
- Quit BlueMail completely and reopen it.
- Update your password if it was changed with your provider recently — an expired password is the most common cause of a sync that stops without any visible error.
- On Windows, if Avast or Norton is installed, its SSL/TLS mail scanning can break the connection. See how to disable SSL/TLS scanning for email traffic.
Folder mapping
To manage your folders, follow these steps:
- Tap Settings
- Tap Accounts
- Tap your account
- Tap Folder Management
- Tap Folder Mapping
To change the folder mapping, tap the folder you wish to map from, and select the folder you wish to map to.
Your mapping should match the folders your provider’s web client is using to ensure your sync is performed correctly. For example, you should map your Spam Folder to the Spam folder on your web client.
Emails that you archive, delete, or send in BlueMail will be placed in the corresponding named folder for later access on your web client and vice versa.
Note: Folder mapping is applied only to IMAP and Exchange protocols and not to POP3.
Still having problems?
If the steps above did not resolve the issue, identify the specific error you are seeing. If BlueMail shows a sync error, tap it — that opens the full error message, which tells you which of these applies:
- You see an error code when receiving or sending mail — look it up in IMAP error codes, POP3 error codes, or SMTP (sending) error codes.
- "Could not verify certificate" or a certificate error — this usually means the server name or security settings need to be corrected. Check your account's server settings under Settings | Accounts | [tap the account] | Incoming/Outgoing Settings against the values published by your email provider. If the values are right and the error persists, set Security on that screen to SSL/TLS (without certificate).
- The account was working and suddenly stopped — your provider may have expired your password or now require an app-specific password. Update your password in BlueMail.
- POP3 accounts — POP3 only downloads from the Inbox and does not sync other folders or changes back to the server. If you need full sync, re-add the account using IMAP.
If the problem persists after trying the above, email support@bluemail.me with your account type, protocol (IMAP/POP3/Exchange), provider, and the exact error message — a screenshot of the full error, opened by tapping the sync error, helps the most.
