How Do I Fix a Typo in a Saved Contact or Autocomplete?

A mistyped email address has a way of coming back: it keeps appearing in autocomplete, and one distracted tap sends your mail to the wrong place again. The fix depends on where the typo lives, and it can live in two places at once, because BlueMail suggests recipients from your contacts and from every address you have previously emailed.

If it's a saved contact

Fix the contact where it is stored:

  • A contact from your device or provider. Correct it in your phone's Contacts app, or in your provider's contacts (e.g. Google Contacts), and BlueMail picks the change up from there. How Do I Delete a Contact? explains which source a contact comes from and where to remove it so it's gone everywhere.
  • A contact you added in BlueMail. Go to Settings | Groups & Contacts, tap Edit next to the wrong entry and tap Delete Contact. Then add it again with the correct address: tap the Create New button at the top right (the group icon with a +) and choose Create Contact.

If autocomplete remembers the typo

Once you've emailed the mistyped address even once, it becomes a suggestion of its own, so fixing the saved contact doesn't remove it. To stop it:

  1. Go to Settings | Groups & Contacts.
  2. Find the mistyped address under Contacts (the search icon at the top helps), and tap Edit next to it.
  3. Turn on Hidden in autocomplete, or tap Delete Contact to drop the entry entirely.

From then on, only the corrected address is suggested. More on the contact's page itself is in Edit a Contact.

Deleted it, but the typo still autocompletes?

A deleted address can sometimes keep appearing as a suggestion. The workaround is to give it the autocomplete-hide flag before deleting it:

  1. Add the mistyped address back as a contact: on the Contacts tab, tap the Create New button at the top right and choose Create Contact.
  2. Open the new contact's page (in Settings | Groups & Contacts, tap Edit next to it) and turn on Hidden in autocomplete.
  3. Now delete it: tap Delete Contact on the same page.

The hide setting sticks, and the address stops being suggested for good.
