What Is the People Tab? | Groups & Contacts in BlueMail

The People tab at the bottom of the screen is BlueMail's home for the people you email: your contacts, and the groups you build from them. It is also the screen to check when your groups seem to have disappeared, more on that below.

What's on the People screen

Across the top of the list is a three-way selector, and it opens on the first of them:

  • All: groups and contacts together. This is what you see when you arrive.
  • Groups: the mailing groups for the current account. Each row shows the group's photo, name, and its members' addresses.
  • Contacts: the individual contacts for the current account.

The search box searches whichever of the three is showing, so its wording changes with the selection, Search Groups on the Groups list, Search Contacts on the Contacts one.

At the top of the screen you'll see the current account, its avatar, name, and email address, with a small arrow next to the name. Everything listed below belongs to that account. Next to it are a search icon and an add icon (a person with a +), which from the Groups tab opens the Create Group screen.

There is also a Sort by control, offering Name (A–Z) or Name (Z–A). It opens on Name (A–Z), and the menu ticks whichever order is currently in use.

Groups belong to one account

Every group is stored under the account that was selected when it was created. The Create Group screen shows which account that is, the email address appears right under the title. Switch the People screen to a different account and the Groups tab shows that account's groups instead.

"My groups disappeared." This is almost always account selection, not data loss: the People screen is showing a different account from the one the groups were created under. Use the account selector at the top of the People screen (the account name with the small arrow) to switch back, and the groups reappear. If they don't turn up under any of your accounts, contact support@bluemail.me.

Working with groups

  • Create a group: on the Groups tab, tap the add icon, enter a Group Name, tap Add Members, then tap Create. Full steps: Creating and Removing a Group.
  • Edit a group: tap a group to open it. You can change its name, tap the camera icon on the photo to set a picture, add members, and tap Save. The member list marks the group's creator as Admin. See Naming a Group and Setting a Photo.
  • Leave a group: open the group, tap the 3-dot menu in the top right, choose Leave group, and confirm. See How Do I Delete a Group?.
  • Email a group: you don't send from this screen. Tap Compose, type the group's name in the To field, and pick it from the suggestions, the email goes to every member. See How to Send an Email to a Group.

Working with contacts

Tap a contact to open its profile. That is where its details live, phone, company, job title, website and the rest, and where Delete Contact is.

A contact can also be kept but stopped from being suggested as you type an address; see Remove a Contact From Auto-Complete. For editing details, see How Do I Edit a Contact's Settings?

Not the same thing: the Group Mail folder

You may also see Group Mail listed as a folder in the Folder Drawer (tap your account avatar at the top left), under Main Folders. Despite the shared name, that entry is part of your mail folder list, it is not where your groups are stored or managed, and opening it won't bring back a "missing" group. To manage the groups themselves, names, photos, members , use People | Groups. For an overview of the feature, see What Is Group Mail?.

"People" and "Groups" in Clusters

BlueMail's Clusters feature also uses the names People and Groups, for its email categories: person-to-person mail and group conversations. Those are views of your inbox, not this screen, and they exist even if you have never created a group. See What Are Clusters? and Turning Cluster Mode On or Off.
