Notification Methods
Notifications use the notification bar, and show a short preview of the email.
Each account gets its own method, so you can have work mail arrive the instant it is sent and personal mail check in on a schedule. Go to Settings | Notifications | [select the account] | Push or Fetch:
- Instant Push - To get instant notifications.
- Direct Push - To get instant notifications through a direct connection to your email provider.
- Frequent Fetch - To check for new emails periodically.
- No Push - To disable push notifications, but still see emails being updated when opening the app.
- Manual - To do on-demand refresh sync only, and do not get notifications.
Choosing Frequent Fetch on Android adds a Fetch Interval setting just beneath it, so you can pick how often BlueMail looks — see Setting the fetch interval.
BlueMail offers whichever of these your account can actually deliver: Frequent Fetch, No Push and Manual are always there, and the two push options appear where your provider and platform support them. What are the Notification Methods? has the details for each.
Please note that only emails arriving in the Inbox trigger a notification. Mail delivered straight to another folder — by a provider-side rule, for instance — will not notify you.
Customizing Notifications
You can tailor each account to have a different notification scheme, e.g. have different options for work related accounts, and personal / family accounts.
BlueMail allows you to control the notifications per account using Settings | Notifications | [select the account] to access per-account settings:
- Enable Notifications — toggle notifications on or off for this account.
- Push or Fetch — see Notification Methods above.
- If battery optimization is interfering with notifications, a Turn OFF Battery Optimization warning appears here, with a direct link to fix it.
- Incoming Sound — choose the sound played for new mail. See How Do I Change the Email Notification Sound? and Does BlueMail Support Notification Sounds?, or put the original sound back.
- Private Notifications — control how much detail is shown. See Private Notifications in BlueMail.
- Vibration — toggle vibration on or off.
- Vibration Settings — choose the vibration pattern and number of repetitions. See How to set Vibrations on Notifications?
- Encrypt Notifications — toggle whether notification content is encrypted.
- Push Services — toggle push delivery for this account.
- Show Account Description — toggle showing the account's description alongside notifications.
- Do Not Disturb — silence notifications for this account, on the days and at the hours you choose. See How to Disable Notifications for Given Times?
