Moving BlueMail to a New Phone or Computer

Got a new device? What happens next depends on one thing: whether your old device still works and still has BlueMail installed on it.

First, install BlueMail on the new device, the download links for every platform are on Sign in and Get Started with BlueMail.

If the old device still works

Use MagicSync. It transfers your account configurations and settings between your devices.

  1. On the old device, go to Settings | MagicSync and generate a MagicSync number (a unique token).
  2. Enter that number on the new device.
  3. Your account settings transfer over.

You will have to type your email passwords again. For security reasons MagicSync does not carry passwords, each account asks for its own on the new device.

Once the two devices are linked, any future changes you make to your BlueMail settings apply automatically to all linked devices. This is also how you set up BlueMail for Desktop from a phone that is already configured.

Once you have linked your first device, a second row joins the MagicSync screen: Linked Devices, "View and edit your current devices connected via MagicSync". It gives you a running list of everything in sync, and lets you unlink a device you have moved on from. On a fresh device you start with Start MagicSync, and Linked Devices appears as soon as the first link succeeds.

Settings → MagicSync → Start MagicSync → Get MagicSync number

The clip shows the old device, the one generating the number.

If the old device is lost, broken, wiped or reinstalled

MagicSync generates its number from a running BlueMail install, so it is the tool for a hand-off you can plan, while you still have both devices. If the old phone has already gone, broken, been reset or sold, adding your accounts again is the route, and it is quicker than it sounds.

In that situation you add each account again by hand. Most accounts need nothing but your email address and password: see Can't Add My Account for the normal sign-in route, and for what to do when a provider won't connect.

MagicSync moves settings, not your mail

MagicSync transfers account configurations and settings. It does not copy messages from one device to another. On the new device your mail downloads again from your provider's server, going back as far as that account's sync period allows. See What is the Days to Sync Option?.
