2-step verification on your Yahoo account does not stop you from using BlueMail. BlueMail signs in to Yahoo with OAuth, so the sign-in happens on Yahoo's own page — your password and any second verification step are entered there, with Yahoo, and BlueMail receives a secure token instead of your password.
Adding a Yahoo account when 2-step verification is on
- On the add-account screen, enter your Yahoo address, or pick Yahoo from the provider list.
- BlueMail takes you to Yahoo's own sign-in page. Enter your password there.
- If Yahoo asks for your second verification step, complete it on that page, exactly as you would when signing in from a web browser.
- Once Yahoo accepts the sign-in, you are returned to BlueMail and the account is connected.
For more on how the second step works during setup, see How to use Two-Step Verification?
Setting Yahoo up manually? Use an app password
If you configure the account by hand (Manual Setup with IMAP) instead of going through Yahoo's sign-in page, don't enter your regular Yahoo password — with 2-step verification on, providers expect a separate app password in a manual setup form, and a regular password there is a common cause of failed sign-ins and sync errors. Generate one in your Yahoo account's security settings — see Yahoo's own App Access and Security guide — and use it in place of your password.
If Yahoo asked you to re-authenticate
If Yahoo emailed you about app access, or BlueMail shows a re-authentication message for your Yahoo account, remove and re-add the account so it reconnects through OAuth — see Yahoo OAuth - Update Authentication.
After changing your Yahoo password
Tell BlueMail to sign in again:
- Go to Settings | Accounts.
- Tap your Yahoo account.
- Select Update Password.
Because Yahoo uses OAuth, this sends you back to Yahoo's sign-in page — including the 2-step prompt, if Yahoo shows one — rather than asking for the password inside BlueMail.
Still can't sign in?
- Yahoo itself may be having a temporary outage. Outages are on Yahoo's side and clear on their own.
- Otherwise, email support@bluemail.me and tell us whether you signed in on Yahoo's page or used an app password, whether the problem is only with your Yahoo account, and when it started.
Using AOL?
AOL accounts work the same way: BlueMail signs you in through AOL's own page with OAuth, and after a password change the same Settings | Accounts | your AOL account | Update Password path sends you back to AOL to sign in again. If you set AOL up manually, you need an AOL app password — see How to Add Comcast, AOL, Verizon and EarthLink Accounts for the steps and server settings.
