For addresses at fastmail.com, fastmail.fm, other Fastmail domains or your own domain hosted at Fastmail, BlueMail needs a Fastmail app password: your normal password doesn't work in third-party mail apps. Users on Fastmail's Basic plan can't create app passwords or use BlueMail, because Basic has no IMAP or SMTP.
Steps to Create a Fastmail App-Specific Password
- Sign in to Fastmail in a web browser and open Settings | Privacy & Security: app.fastmail.com.
- Under Connected apps & API tokens, select Manage app passwords and access, then New app password. If Verify it's you appears, enter your normal Fastmail password.
- Choose a name (or select Custom... to type your own), keep the access at Mail, Contacts & Calendars, and select Generate password.
- Copy the new password. Keep the page open until BlueMail connects, then select Done.
- In BlueMail, enter this password instead of your normal Fastmail password: when you add the account, or for an account already in BlueMail, under Settings | Accounts | [your account] | Update Password.
On a Fastmail trial, BlueMail can't download mail until the account is verified by SMS.
