Start from the symptom. Each line below goes straight to the page that deals with it.
Mail is not arriving
- Nothing new for hours or days. Work through Connection Issues, Sync Failures or Missing Emails, which covers the usual causes in the order worth checking.
- New mail only appears when you open the app, or arrives late. That is the account's sync mode: see What are the Notifications Methods? and, on Android, battery optimization.
- No notifications at all, even though mail arrives. See Not Receiving Push Notifications?
- Senders get a bounce message. Their mail is being refused before it reaches you, and the reason is in the bounce: Senders Get a Bounce Message.
A message is missing
- It was there and now it is not. Missing Emails separates the three common causes: a filter hiding it, the sync window, and a message moved elsewhere.
- You deleted it. How to Recover a Deleted Email — start in Trash, which is where it will be unless Trash has been emptied.
- Older mail is absent from a folder. That is the sync window rather than a fault: What is the Days to Sync Option?
- A message opens blank. How to Re-Download an Email, and check the auto-download size limit in Offline Storage.
An account will not add
- Start here: Why Won't My Account Add? Quick Fixes is a single table — find your provider, get the one thing to change.
- "Setup could not finish" (error 3017). Setup Could Not Finish
- "Unable to connect to server" (error 3011). Unable to Connect to Server
- Incorrect username or password, though it works in webmail. Most providers now require an app-specific password: Bad Username or Password.
- IMAP is switched off at the provider: IMAP Disabled.
- It is a work address. Your employer decides what may connect: Can't Add a Work or Company Email Account.
- The full checklist is Can't Add My Account.
Sending fails
- The message sits in the Outbox. Why Is My Email Stuck in the Outbox? — attachment size is the usual cause.
- The connection dropped mid-send. What happens if my connection drops while sending?
- You saw an error code. Understanding the SMTP Error Codes
An error code you need explained
- SMTP codes for sending, IMAP codes and POP3 codes for receiving.
- The code appears in the notice BlueMail shows you: for a send failure it is the Error line on the message that moved to Drafts, and for a connection problem it is the number in brackets after Unable to connect to server.
The app itself is misbehaving
- Emails open with an empty body on Android. Usually a beta Android System WebView: Empty Email View.
- A winmail.dat attachment will not open. BlueMail reads these like any other attachment, so this is unusual — it normally means the file arrived damaged. What winmail.dat is and how to open it.
- Crash on Linux, or blurry windows. GPU process crash and Wayland and fractional scaling.
- Norton or Avast on Windows can break the mail connection outright: Disable SSL/TLS scanning for email.
- Things are slow, or the unread count is wrong. Clearing the cache is safe — your mail lives on the server. What happens when I clear the cache? explains exactly what is and is not removed.
Before you change anything
Try the two-minute fixes. Switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data, restarting the device, and updating your password if it changed recently resolve most connection complaints. They are collected in Common Solutions.
Still stuck
Email support@bluemail.me. What helps most:
- your provider, and whether the account is IMAP, POP3 or Exchange
- the exact error text, or a screenshot or screen recording of it
- when it started, and whether it affects one account or all of them
- on iOS, a crash log if the app is closing unexpectedly
